spot (Sardinia)
SARDINIA

Description

The west-coast of the islands has a lot of good windsurfspots for wave-sailing. The local Mistral wind creates here high waves and excellent windsurfconditions. Sardinia has the best conditions in oktober/november and from march till mai. Then the local Ponente and Mistral westwinds often blow. The Ponente wind appears with lowpressure in South-France or North-Spain.

Spots

1. Porto Pollo
A peninsula devides this spot into two bays, situated to the north. This means that the windsurfconditions at Porto Pollo vary a lot. In one part the onshore wind creates small waves, while in the other part you have sideshore wind with flatwater (good slalomconditions). A sandy beach, clear water, no currents, no shallow parts and no offshore winds make this a very popular spot. Especially in August this spot can get very crowdy.

2. Capo Testa
The alternative for Porto Pollo situated 15 kilometers west of Porto Pollo. With Mistralwind good waves appear in the southern bay of Capo Testa.

3. Marina delle Rose
Here the waves are less dangerous than in Vignola. Marina delle Rose has a sandbeach and a reef with excellent waves.

4. Vignola
A bay with a broad sandy beach. There are slalomconditions when the wind's not too strong, but when the windforce rises above the 6 Beaufort this spot turns into a hardcore wavespot with waves up to 4 meters high! The waves are very powerful and there's a shorebreak.

5. Isola Rossa
The waves are here up to three meters high. This spot is hard to sail because the Mistral blows here onshore. Rookies should not go out on the water here.

6. Badesi Mare
The waves at this spot are a bit chaotic and not as good as at the previous spots. Large sandbeach and moderate waves make this spot also suitable for the less experienced wavesailor.

7. Capo Mannu
This spot has hawaiian-like waves and Mistral wind from the right. It's a real hardcore surfspot for experts only. The shore consists of sharp rocks. There's only one place where you can enter the water safely: About 100 meters to the left there's a small channel with less rocks and more moderate waves.

11. Saint Florent
One of the few slalom-/ beginnerspots in North-Corsica. The Mistral wind can be very fickel over here.
