LAKE GARDA

Description Lake Garda is a large lake in the northern part of Italy. The local winds are called Vento (wind from the north) and Ora (wind from the south). The Vento wind blows in mostly in the morning and the Ora in the afternoon. At most spots you'll find flatwater, but some spots also offer small waves.

Local Spots
Capo Reamol Only accessible for hotel-guests. A very good spot with Vento wind. Hotel Pier Best spot with Ora wind. In the afternoon the wind is here the strongest. You have to pay to park your car here. In weekends it can get very crowdy here. Riva bay This spot is good for beginners. The Vento wind is not so strong here. Maroadi bay Ideal spot for beginners situated near a camping site. Lido di Arco Here the Vento blows very strong. There are showers, a bar and parking space for 8 guilders a day. Lido Blu and Pavese The Vento wind is not very strong here. With wind from the south hell breaks lose at Pavese. In- and outgoing sailors, a swimming-zone and a shorebreak make the start at this gravel beach hard. After about 50 meters from shore the wind really gets going. Hotel Paradiso Here the Ora blows sideshore but it's hard to find a parking space here and there drift a lot of swimmers in the water. Conca d'Oro The best spot in this area. Nothing stands the wind in the way here. In weekends this spot can get very crowdy. Corno di Bo The best Vento and Ora spot. The start however is a bit hard. This spot lies next to the road, so there's not much room to rigg your equipment. Then you have to cary your equipment over a small path to the water. But it's worth the bother. Villabella This spot is only accessible for guests of the nearby hotel. The northwind has increased in power here. With southwind the conditions are not so good. Navene This spot best to be sailed with Vento wind. Surfcenter Wurz Broad beach that has the best sailing conditions with Vento.
Wind & Weather The local winds are called Ora and Vento. The Ora starts blowing in the afternoon and continues blowing untill 5 p.m. Most of the time the wind is not stronger than 4 Beaufort, sometimes it increases up to 5 Beaufort. The best sail for Ora wind is therefor a 6.0 or bigger slalomsail. The Vento wind however blows a bit harder. At good days this wind can reach a windforce of 6 Beaufort at Malcesine. This wind blows from around 5 or 6 a.m. till 10 a.m. In spring and fall this wind is strongest. [no statistics available]
