Actic

Siberia has been for many centuries the homeland for more than one million indigenous people. People who had managed to adjust their way of life to the harsh conditions in this region. They had build up an existence as hunter, shepherd, fisherman or farmer. Their struggle with the hostile natural environment made them excellent survivallists. Their most difficult battle however wasn't that with nature, but with the Russian state who dominates them for almost three centuries now. Their story is the same like many indigenous cultures all over the world, who suffered the turbulent and cruel history of colonization. Arctic people from other regions like Scandinavia, Greenland, Iceland, Canada and Alaska have somehow managed to occupy a place in the capitalistic system. But if these cultures will survive in the future is uncertain.
